Sunday 18th July 2010 – Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord

The death of eight men in Inishowen last Sunday in the horrific car crash has been talked about in possibly every home this week. For many of us, all we can do and have done during the week is pray for those who died and for their families who are trying to come to terms with their devastating loss of a loved one. We as a Parish Community offer our sincere condolences to all families, to their extended family members and to their friends. We also remember and pray for the driver and his family.

GRAVEYARD SERVICES

This afternoon, we will have Public Prayers for the Faithful Departed in Conwal Graveyard at 4 pm. We encourage as many people as possible to walk to the Graveyard. Tomorrow evening, Monday 19th we will have Public Prayers for the Faithful Departed in Aughaninshin Graveyard at 7 pm. Next Sunday, we will have Public Prayers for the Faithful Departed in Old Leck Graveyard at 4 pm and in New Leck Graveyard at 5 pm.

COMFORT IN GRIEVING

Almighty Father, be with all those who grieve today over the loss of a loved one. May their sorrow be lit with the brightness of the Resurrection; may they be assured that they will meet again those whom they have loved and lost awhile. May they know that they are never parted from each other if they are united in Jesus your Son. May He who said that the blessed who mourn shall be comforted, comfort those who grieve today, and strengthen their belief in life after death. Amen.

ANNUAL RAPHOE DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK

Will take place on Saturday 14th August. We invite as many parishioners as possible to travel to Knock for this day. Mass will be at 3 pm with anointing and blessing of the sick. Pilgrims are asked to arrive early to avail of Confessions. A bus will leave the Cathedral Car Park at 8.30 am. Tickets for the bus are €20. Tickets may be purchased from the Parochial House. We need assistance with the following for Mass in Knock: One person to do a Reading in English; one person for the Prayers of the Faithful; 2/4 people or a family for the Offertory and finally a person to lead the Rosary (if the weather is good). A warm WELCOME to Fr. Jacob Vattackattu presently visiting our Parish. Fr. Jacob is a familiar face to many of you as he has visited on previous occasions. He works with children who are poor and mentally challenged as part of Mother Teresa’s Mission in his native Kerala, India. Fr. Jacob can be contacted at the Parochial House on 9121021. HISTORY COMES TO LIFE at the Donegal County Museum, High Road, Letterkenny. Every Thursday from July 15th until the first week in September; for the first time the Donegal County Museum is bringing their Museums Workhouse history to life.
