St Matthew's Parish Notes 22nd August 2010

Special Collection for Pakistan
There will be a special collection at all Masses this weekend to contribute to the relief assistance and the reconstruction in Pakistan. This special collection will replace the regular Share collection.
Trocaire has been working in Pakistan for more than thirty years and established their office there in 2006. We are collaborating with Caritas Internationalalis on the global church response to the situation. The local Caritas is active but not strong given the difficult situation of Christian churches in Pakistan. We are cooperating with all Irish Missionary organisations to provide assistance to their communities and parishes.
Our local partner organisations are providing food, shelter etc. The funds generated by this appeal will be well managed and spent effectively in providing immediate relief and assisting poor communities to rebuild their lives when the floods abate.

New Seminarians for Dublin
Keep our 5 new seminarians in your prayers as they begin formation for the priesthood at this time. Four will begin formation in Maynooth this Sunday and a fifth will begin formation in a few weeks time in Valladolid in Spain.  This new intake brings the number of seminarians in formation for the Dublin Diocese above 20 for the first time in over 15 years.
This is especially encouraging given the challenging time we are living in.  Our new seminarians are giving up a lot to put themselves forward for formation.  It is not easy leaving a career, a home and a way of life to enter a seminary.  They are to be commended.  Please keep them in your prayers. Thank you to all who keep prayer for vocations high on your list of priorities.  It is vital that we continue asking the lord of the harvest to send labourers into His harvest.
If you feel that you are being called to the priesthood, even remotely, then the Vocations Director, Fr Eamonn Bourke would love to hear from you.  You can contact him in confidence and without any obligation at vocations@dublindiocese.ie or by txt/phone at 0868346071.  You can also check out our website at: www.priest.ie.
