The Carmelite Nuns, Loughrea invite young women, who are seeking to find God's ways for them, to come and spend some time with us as we explore together what it means to live a life of prayer, on Fri 2nd March – Sun. 4th March. Charity Concert in aid of Trocaire The eight strong Firhouse Singers will perform a programme of popular choral pieces in the Carmelite Abbey on Saturday March 3rd @ 8p.m. Tickets: €10 and may be purchased from News & Choose or The Abbey Office. Also performing will be the Abbey Adult Choir and the brilliant Japanese violinist Yuki Nishioka.
The Second Basket Collection next Sunday, Feb. 26th is the Lenten collection for the Diocese. Please give as generously as you can.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Ashes will be distributed after 11a.m. Mass and 8p.m. Mass on Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. Fasting means that the amount of food we eat is considerably reduced. Abstinence means that we give up a particular kind of food or drink or form of amusement. Those over eighteen are bound by the law of fasting until the beginning of their sixtieth year, while all over fourteen are bound by the law of abstinence.
