Last weekend Enda Kenny opened the complete Greenway Achill to Westport , on bank holiday Monday August 1st a group led by Johnny Oosten completed the first ever Greenway walk a distance of 43km. This challenge was in the pipeline for some weeks and was promoted on a facebook page The Great Western Greenway Walk 2011 32 completed the route. The group set out from Achill at 7am and delighted to finish in Westport at 4pm...some with blisters...all with sore limbs....but all proud

Amongst the walkers....Cllr Brendan Mulroy & Wife..Frank Gill,,Pat kearns,Matt Loughrey 365...Eunice Moran..The Kili Girls from St Josephs Castlebar..Corina Oosten sister of Johnny...etc...a special word of thanks to Vincent Mc Hale from Park Castlebar who manned the fluid stops at five locations along the route.
Weather conditions were ideal. We would like to thank all who came out to support on this challenge. We have now decided to make this an annual event to be held on August Bank Holiday Monday.
