Children’s Officer Training 8th & 15th Nov

Does your club have a childrens officer? Recommendations from the Irish Sports Council are that every club involved with children and young people should appoint a Children's Officer.



The next Childrens Officer in Sport Course takes place over 2 Tuesdays in November and a limited number of places are available



Dates: Tuesday 8th & 15th November



Time: 7pm – 10pm each night



Venue: Mayo Education Centre, Old Westport Rd Castlebar



This person should be child centred in focus and should have as their primary aim the establishment of a child centred ethos within the club. They are the link between the children and the adults in the club and also take responsibility for monitoring and reporting to the Club Management Committee on how club policy etc. impacts on children and their Sports Leaders.

“Children's Officer training is 6 hours and looks at the issues raised in the awareness training in greater detail. It will help children's officers to implement the clubs code of conduct and disciplinary procedures, as well as create a positive environment for young people. It will also discuss how to identify and eliminate practices that impact negatively on a young person's safe and enjoyable participation in sport”



The content of the course is.

· The 4 categories of abuse

· Code booklet

· The role of CO

· The role of Designated person

· Making a report

· Response to a report

· Grounds for a concern

· Confidentiality





It is essential that those who wish to attend the Children's Officer training have attended the 4 hour basic Code of Ethics Awareness/Child Protection Training workshop.



Please note: as this is an Irish Sports Council accredited course, your club must be under a National Governing Body (NGB) to be able to participate in this course, please indicate your NGB on the application form.



It is recommended to have at least one Children's Officer per club or if there is a large number of both boys and girls in the club, to have two Children's Officers – one male and one female.
