Arts Project :Over the past couple of weeks, children in the schools of Lecanvey, Killeen and Louisburgh have been working on an arts project called Elephants Balancing on a Feather. Annual Bazaar and cake sale The Parents Association of Louisburgh National School will be holding their Annual Bazaar and Cake Sale on Sunday 04 December 12.00 noon – 2.00 p.m. in Louisburgh Town Hall. All donations, bric-a-brac, toys, games, dvds, cds etc (in very good condition only please!) can be left to the Town Hall on Saturday 03 December between 5.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.. Cakes, buns etc can be left into hall on morning of the bazaar between 11.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon All proceeds are used to fund events organised by the PA of Louisburgh National School. Advent Wreath
Why not have your own Advent Wreath at home. It will help keep the focus on preparing for celebrating Christ's coming at Christmas.
The origins of the Advent wreath are found in the folk practices of the pre-Christian Germanic peoples who, during the winter darkness, gathered wreaths of evergreen and lighted fires as signs of hope in a coming spring. Christians kept these traditions alive, and by the 16th century used these symbols to celebrate their Advent hope in Christ, the everlasting Light. From Germany the use of the Advent wreath spread to other parts of the Christian world.
Traditionally, the wreath is made of four candles in a circle of evergreens. Each day, the candles are lighted, one candle the first week, and then another each succeeding week until Christmas. A short prayer may accompany the lighting.
