Trocaire Collection: The total donated so far from the Lenten offerings in the parish is €5,054. Thanks for your generosity this Lent. If you have not already done so, can you please return your donation by next Sunday, 22 April.

Easter Priest's Collection: This is one of the four collections for the support of priests that are held during the year in the Tuam Archdiocese. The weekly collection is used for the running and upkeep of the parish. Sincere thanks to all who contribute so generously.

Young Children at Mass: the area under the stairs in Louisburgh Church has been adapted so parents may bring young children there, if they wish, during Mass. CCTV will provide a link to the sanctuary of the church.

Sunday 09 September Anniversary Mass with refreshments in the Hall. There will be a photo exhibition in the Hall and also items from the original Church will be on display e.g. the Chalice that is currently used at Mass was presented to the parish by the people of Clinton, Mass. in 1860. Thanks to all those who have contributed items and we look forward to receiving more.
Sunday 30 September Archbishop Neary will visit St. Patrick's Church and celebrate Mass with us. It is hoped that he will unveil a plaque marking and recording for future generations the celebrations for the 150th anniversary.

Killeen Parent and Toddler group returns after the Easter holidays on Friday 20 April from 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. All preschoolers and their parents welcome. Killeen playschool is also on Easter holidays until Monday 16 April.

Louisburgh GAA Strategic Plan Open Night.
Louisburgh GAA club are preparing a strategic plan and are hosting an open night to gather input from the public on the plan. The club would like as many people from the community to attend, members and non-members alike. The club would especially like as many parents and those working with the youth of the parish and in those other organisations to attend. The open night will take place on Monday 23 April at 8.00 pm in the Parochial Hall.

Contemporary Catholic Perspectives
The Association of Catholic priests recently commissioned research to assess the response of Catholics to changes in Church structures and the relevance of contemporary Church teaching in key areas to their daily lives.

Some of the results are as follows;
Liturgy:
Just over 1 in 2 Irish Catholics are aware of the changes made to the wording of the Missal in 2011.
Catholics are unsure about the change to the Missal wording, with just under 1 in 4 favorable towards it. 9 in 10 find it less user friendly than the older version.
Overwhelming support for old response "and also with you" to the greeting “The Lord be with you” with almost 4 in 5 preferring it to the new response. Similar level of support for the Creed “...for us and for our salvation” as opposed to “...for us men and for our salvation”.
Ministries
87% of Catholics felt priests should be allowed to marry.
77% said the church should ordain women to the priesthood.
Consultation with Laity
There was an over riding belief that laypeople are not being heard on religions issues by the authorities in the Catholic Church.
63% of laity supported more involvement of Priests and Laypeople in the choice of Diocesan Bishop
Sexual Morality
3 in 4 find the Church's teaching on sexuality irrelevant to them and/ or their family.
High levels of disagreement among Catholics surrounding the teaching that a sexual expression of love between homosexual couples is immoral with 3 in 5 believing that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality.
Overwhelming majority believe that Catholics who are divorced or separated and in a second relationship should be allowed receive communion at Mass, with just under 9 in 10 believing they should.
Mass Attendance
35% attend at least once a week with a further 16% attending at least once a month.
The results show what most people already felt was happening in our church. They do point to a very serious disconnection between official Church teachings and what members actually believe and practice.
The huge task is to address this in a constructive manner, in a respectful way through dialogue and discussion rather than resort to dismissal of ideas and people and silence. There is a need for all in our church to actually listen respectfully to each other and be open to learning from each other.
