1. Guidelines
Kilgeever Parish Pastoral Council Guidelines were read and adopted pending one change on point 7 dealing quorum for meetings, which will be 5 for all meetings. A copy to be put on the notice board at the back of both Churches.
2. Easter Review
It was felt that Easter went well in both Louisburgh and Killeen. As it was the first time that the Good Friday Liturgy was lay led, there was some discussion about this, e.g. people's fears, however, the feedback is that it went very well. Also, there were a huge amount of people of all ages involved over Lent & Easter and our thanks goes to them.
3. Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi Procession will take place in Louisburgh on 10 June 2012, after 11:30 Mass, weather permitting.
4. “Do This in Memory” Thanks to Sandra Mc Cluskey for her role in coordinating the “Do This in Memory” programme with the schools for First Communion.
5. Plaque Unveiling
13 July 2012: 2.00pm the Incoming Mayor of Doncaster, Christine Mills, will unveil a plaque on the site of the old Church on Chapel Street. Cllr. Austin Francis O Malley will accompany her, as will Fr. Ger's two sisters, Laurena and Mary. This is to acknowledge Fr. Ger receiving the Freeman of Doncaster, where he served for many years. A wreath will be laid on Fr Ger's grave afterwards. All are welcome.
6. 150th Anniversary:
Photo taken prior to this evening's meeting will be sent to Mayo News with a short press release re the impending celebrations in September.
Friday 07 September: Catherine and Sandra said that preparations are well under way for the concert, it is planned to be in three sections, each dealing with a 50 year period from 1862, Ann Marie Gibbons, Doughmakeon and Michael Hannon, Bunowen are confirmed to attend and together with the Parish Choirs, it promises to be a great night of entertainment. It will start at 8.00pm
Saturday 08 September: 2.00 pm Buses to leave Square for a short service at the Holy Well in Kilgeever before walk to Louisburgh Church with each person carrying a small bottle of Holy Water provided to empty into the Holy Water font at the Church.
A lot of research has been done into information re the Station at the Holy Well and we are looking into getting this on a sign to replace the old one, which is broken. Many people outside the parish use the Station often.

8.30 p.m. the Launch of An Choinneal in the West View. Followed with Music by Kevin & Eamonn.
Sunday 09 September 11.30 a.m. Mass followed with refreshments in Parish Hall.

Louisburgh NS are to be asked to prepare a time capsule to be buried in the Church grounds and to be opened on 200th anniversary in 50 years!
Sancta Maria are to do a small piece of drama on the history compiled by John Lyons, Sr Marie to arrange with the students. A general invite to be sent to the Sisters of Mercy re the 150th.
Fr Waldron and Fr Darcy have replied to the invitation and both hope to attend part of the weekend.
The Heritage Day committee are interested in having a heritage day on Sat 08 Sept in the town, to coincide with the celebrations. This was discussed and ruled out as a project to be undertaken by the Pastoral Council at an earlier meeting as it was felt that it was a lot of work and that the Pastoral Council could not take it on as there was enough happening; however, it was noted that the Heritage Committee will make their own decision and may wish to proceed themselves.
7. Cemetery Masses: There will be Mass in both Kilgeever and Killeen graveyards in the summer. They will be arranged at fairly short notice after consulting the 4 to 5 day weather forecast. It will be announced in the newsletter.
There is one outstanding Cillin to be blessed and this is in Falduff, We are trying to contact the owners of the land who have given preliminary permission.
8. Dawn Mass on Easter Sunday: A suggestion was brought to the meeting to have a Dawn Mass on Easter Sunday morning at a Cillin or at Gowlawn, there was some discussion about this: a nice idea but we need to be mindful that we have only one priest and Easter is already a busy time, with two Churches in the parish. Also, Easter is one time that many people who may not normally go to church, do so, and so it would be splitting congregations and limited resources such as choirs, readers, eucharistic ministers etc..
There was Dawn Mass in Murrisk last Easter, which is very close. A Dawn Mass at another time of the year, e.g. Pentecost could be an alternative, this will be discussed at another meeting.
9. Deanery Pastoral Council: The feedback at the last meeting in April was mainly about the experience of lay led liturgies in parishes, particularly at Easter. There was talk about training people to lead lay liturgies though the consensus was that what was needed was practice, however, some parishes are finding it difficult to get experience in lay led liturgies.
Some parishes reported that over Easter that there were too many Masses and ceremonies in some parishes in an attempt to accommodate all Churches, with the net effect that there were a lot of half empty Churches for services, and priests were over stretched. Parishioners commented that it also had the effect of reducing the atmosphere present on such occasions.
10. New members
Elaine announced her intention to resign from the chair in October, as did Breta from the post of secretary. They feel that while they have enjoyed it, that it is now time to let new people takeover these posts and bring new ideas to the table. Elaine has offered to take over as secretary. People were asked to think about this over the summer
11. ACP-Towards a National Assembly
The Association of Catholic Priests recently arranged a meeting in Dublin to discuss issues affecting the Church. A lively discussion was had re this. The role of the laity within the ACP will become clear over the coming months and people felt that it would be a good place to try to affect positive change in the Church. There will be meetings arranged at deanery and diocesan level over the coming months and these will be advertised.
12. AOB: Some readers have asked that there be an annual rota put up in the porch like the one for Eucharistic Ministers as they can see ahead when they are on and arrange a swap if needed. People have commented positively on the new sanctuary lamp and Holy Water font in the side porch of Louisburgh Church
13. Best wishes to Fr Sean O Leary for a speedy recovery.

Return to; Irish Graveyard Surveyors, 6 Station Road, Balla, Castlebar, Co Mayo or to call 094 936 6912 or 094 936 5048 or 087 207 6248 anytime.

• Ambulance; The Order of Malta volunteers provide an invaluable service to Louisburgh and the surrounding district with their emergency ambulance service. The Parish is proud to have provided the site for their ambulance base in Louisburgh at the Pastoral Centre. If you are parking in the Pastoral Centre always ensure that the Ambulance base is not in any way restricted by your car and that the ambulance can make a swift exit in case of an emergency call. Likewise if parking on the road adjacent to the centre or in the region of the junction beside the Garda Station and Church ensure that you leave enough room so the ambulance can get quickly to the main road.
Accord: The Accord Centre in Castlebar offers a safe and confidential process, facilitating couples and individuals to explore, reflect upon, and resolve difficulties in their marriage and relationship. Please Contact 094 902 2214 for an appointment or further information.
Adult Education – Sancta Maria College
Places are now available on our 2012-2013 Adult Education Programme. A wide range of courses are available; Childcare, Special Needs Assisting, Computers and Business Administration. Day and evening courses available. For further information call Sancta Maria College 098 66342.
Tax Rebate Forms: Sincere thanks to all who have already returned the CHY2 tax rebate form. If you pay all of your income tax under the PAYE scheme, and donate to the parish using the weekly envelope, and have received the form please fill it out and return it to the church or to Fr. Long if you have not already done so. The parish can then claim back the tax you have already paid on your contributions. It costs you nothing.
If you pay any or all of your income tax as a self employed person be sure you claim tax credits for your donations to your parish. The tax rebate system is very valuable in helping with parish finances and for instance the amount the parish has received over the past few years has more than covered the costs of repainting Louisburgh church and the repairs to the facia etc in Killeen Church.
The Solemnity of Corpus Christi (Body of Christ), now celebrated on the Sunday following Trinity Sunday commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist. Formerly celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, it paralleled Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday), which also commemorates Our Lord's institution of the Eucharist. Because Holy Thursday is in Holy Week, the celebration Corpus Christi was introduced so that the faithful would not lose sight of the institution of the Holy Eucharist.
Corpus Christi became a mandatory feast in the Roman Church in 1312. But nearly a century earlier, Saint Juliana of Mont Cornillon, promoted a feast to honour the Blessed Sacrament. From an early age Juliana, who became an Augustinian nun in Liege, France, in 1206, had a great veneration for the Blessed Sacrament, and longed for a special feast in its honour. She made known her ideas to the Bishop of Liege, Robert de Thorete, to the Dominican Hugh who later became cardinal legate in the Netherlands, and to Jacques Panaleon, at the time Archdeacon of Liege and who later became Pope Urban IV. Bishop Robert de Thorete ordered that the feast be celebrated in his diocese.
Pope Urban IV on 8 September 1264 ordered the annual celebration of Corpus Christi on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. More than four decades later, Pope Clement V published a new decree which embodied Urban IV's decree and ordered the adoption of the feast at the General Council of Vienna (1311).
The processions on Corpus Christi to honour the Holy Eucharist were not mentioned in the decrees, but had become a principal feature of the feast's celebration by the faithful, and became a tradition throughout Europe. (Principal source - Catholic Encyclopaedia)
