CRAFT GROUP MEETINGS - TUESDAY 11TH OCTOBER @ 8PM
We meet regularly in Glencorrib Community Centre. We bring whatever craft we like (e.g. cards, knitting, crochet) with us to work on for the evening, chat, share ideas & have a cuppa. Meetings are informal. €2-3 pp per night to cover hall / heating costs. Next meeting Tuesday Oct 11th @ 8pm. New attendees always welcome.

SHRULE GLENCORRIB BORD NA NOG CLUB - FUNDRAISING DRAW – THE RESULTS:
Draw took place on Sunday last 2nd October @ 12 noon in Glencorrib Community Sportsfield:
1st Prize: € 300 went to John Cotter, Woodpark.
2nd Prize: € 200 went to Teresa O Hare, Woodpark,
3rd Prize: € 50 went to Jenna Lee, Cullen, Headford,
4th Prize: € 50 went to Margaret Lee, Cullen, Headford,
Players Full Card Draw of Club Gear was Daniel Reilly, Brodella.
We would like to thank everyone for their support with the draw and it was a great success.
A total of €3,400 was raised by all the players.


SHRULE – GLENCORRIB GAA SCRAP METAL FUNDRAISER EVENT
Do you ever look around your farm or workshop and see all the scrap metal laying all around. Then this notice is for you. A scrap metal collection fundraiser event will take place on Sat 22nd & Sun 23rd October.

A. It will be difficult for people who find it hard to read the new translation on leaflets or missalettes. But once people get familiar with the new translation there should be no problem. of Jesus (Jesuits) Patron of Portugal and against Earthquakes

Tue 11th Oct ST. CANICE, (Derry) c525-99.
Legend says that with a stern word he chased away all the mice on the island of Inis Ubdain, and that he ordered all the birds to land and stop singing during Mass, and that when he lived as a hermit, a local stag would hold Canice's Bible in its antlers so the saint
could hold his hands aloft when praying. Patron of Kilkenny city. Preached in Scotland. Copied out all the four Gospels and wrote a commentary on them

Wed 12th Oct ST. FIACE (Ireland) 415-520.
Ordained a priest by St. Patrick. Later ordained as a missionary Bishop of Leinster. Founded many churches and monasteries. Known for his severe fasts during lent. Poet; may have been the author of a metrical life of Saint Patrick, in Irish, said to be the
earliest biography of the saint. Though he suffered from an unnamed, painful condition in his later years, he continued to travel his region right up to his death.

Thu 13th Oct ST. EDWARD THE CONFESSOR. (Oxford UK) 1004-66.
When his father King Ethelred II was unseated by Danish invasion. Edward and his brother were sent to Hungary to be raised and educated. Edward's interests were in things religious. He returned to England in 1042, and was chosen king by acclamation. He gained a reputation as just and worthy of the kingship, and the people of England supported him. He was noted for his generosity to the poor and strangers, and for his piety and love of God. Reported to have the power to heal by touch. Built churches, including Westminster Abbey. Patron of difficult marriages.

Fri 14th Oct ST. CALLISTUS. I. (Italy) Died 223.
Born a slave. Pope put him in charge of the Roman public burial grounds, called Cemetery of St Callistus. Later as Pope himself, Callistus was on more than one occasion accused of heresy for such actions as permitting a return to Communion for sinners who had repented & done penance, or for proclaiming that differences in economic class were no barrier to marriage. This last put him in conflict with Roman civil law, but he stated that in such matters concerning Church law trumped civil law. Legend says that he was killed by a mob by being thrown down a well. Patron of cemetery workers.

Sat 15th Oct ST. TERESA OF AVILA. (Spain) 1515-1582.
She grew up reading the lives of the saints, and playing at "hermit" in the garden. Carmelite nun. At a young age Teresa became gravely ill and she never fully recovered her health. She began receiving visions, and was examined by Dominicans and Jesuits, who pronounced the visions to be holy and true. She later founded a several houses. Dr of the Church, one of the greatest religious reformer.
