A LITTLE BIT OF HUMOUR:
All About Adam
Wandering dejectedly in The Garden of Eden, Eve told God, "I'm lonely I'm tired of eating apples by myself.""Okay," God said, "I'll create a man for you."Eve said, "A man! What's that?""He's a creature with aggressive tendencies and an enormous ego. He won't listen very well, he'll get lost easily, but never stop to ask for directions. However, he is big and strong, he can open jars, hunt animals and provide for you."Sounds great!" said Eve."Oh, and one more thing," God said. "He will want to believe that I made HIM first."

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK Fr Silvester O’Flynn OFM Cap
Q. Jesus said to the repentant thief, ‘I promise you, today you will be with me in paradise.’ Doesn’t that mean there is no purgatory?
A. Hold on a second, it's not so simple. The text is not clear whether today refers to the day when the promise was made or to the time when the promise would be fulfilled. It depends on where the translator puts the comma. Then again, what does today mean? Scripture tells us that with the Lord a thousand years is like a single day. Furthermore, the promise made to one man does not necessarily refer to everybody, especially since not everybody is as repentant as that dying man beside Jesus on Calvary

CHRISTMAS SHOE BOX APPEAL: THANK YOU
Rita Davin, Shrule on behalf of the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal 2010 would like to thank all those who donated shoe boxes to the Christmas Shoe Box appeal for the less well off children of third world countries this Christmas. Thanks to you 267 boxes left Shrule & Glencorrib parish this week, making 267 children very happy this Christmas. It proves that despite our very serious economic problems and the visit of Mr. Chopra to Ireland, that we have not forgotten our Christian obligation to reach out to all needy children caught in the midst of wars, natural disasters, and extreme poverty. These shoeboxes will demonstrate to them that they are not forgotten by us and will give them hope this Christmas. Well Done.
IRISH BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE:
There will be an opportunity to give blood on Tuesday next 23rd November in Ballinrobe Community School from 5pm 8.30pm.

FEAST DAYS OF THE WEEK – THE LIVES OF THE SAINTS
Mon Nov 22nd St. Cecilia. (Italian). Died c 117.
She vowed her virginity to God, but her parents married her to Valerian of Trastevere. She told her new husband that she was accompanied by an angel, but in order to see it, he must be purified. Valerian agreed to the purification and was baptised and on returning from the ceremony, he found her in prayer accompanied by a praying angel. The Angel placed a crown on each of their heads, and offered Valerian a favor; the new convert asked that his brother be baptised. The two brothers developed a ministry of giving proper burial to martyred Christians. In their turn they were arrested and martyred for their faith. Cecilia buried them at her villa and was arrested for the action. She was ordered to sacrifice to false gods; when she refused, she was martyred in her turn. Patron of musicians.
Tue Nov 23rd St. Columbanus. (Ireland), 543-615.
Columban was the greatest of the Irish missionaries who worked on the European continent. As a young man who was greatly tormented by temptations of the flesh, he sought the advice of a religious woman who had lived a hermit's life for years. He saw in her answer a call to leave the world. He went first to a monk on an island in Lough Erne, then to the great monastic seat of learning at Bangor. After many years of seclusion and prayer, he travelled to France with 12 companion missionaries. They won wide respect for commitment to charity and religious life. Columban established several monasteries in Europe, which became centres of religion and culture.
Wed Nov 24th St. Colman. (Ireland) 522-600.
Son of Lenin. Poet. Royal bard, poet, musician, court historian, and genealogist at Cashel. Adult convert at age fifty, being baptized by St. Brendan. He had become involved with Brendan and Christianity while helping recover the stolen shrine of Saint
Ailbhe from a lake. Priest. Evangelist in Limerick and Cork. Teacher of Saint Columba. He founded a church at Cloyne and became its first bishop.
Thu Nov 25th Blessed Elizabeth Achler (Germany) 1386-1420.
Born poor, the daughter of John and Anne Achler. Franciscan tertiary at age 14, but found it hard to lead a religious life while living with her parents. At age 17 she joined four other tertiaries in a community in Reute; she lived there the rest of her life. For most of her life she was subject to ecstasies, and received visions of heaven, hell and purgatory. Stigmatist whose wounds hurt constantly, but which bled on Fridays and during Lent. Had the gift of Inedia. The ability to exist for months or years with no food but Holy Communion.
Fri. Nov 26th St. Leonard of Port Maurice. (Italy) OFM, 1676-1751.
Son of Domenico Casanova, a sea captain, and Anna Maria Benza. Placed at age 13 with his uncle Agostino to study for a career as a physician, but the youth decided against medicine, and his uncle disowned him. Studied at the Jesuit College in Rome. Leonard. Ordained in 1703. Taught for a while, and expected to become a missionary to China, but a bleeding ulcer kept him in his native lands for the several years A great preacher, he was often invited to other areas. Worked for devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, Sacred Heart, Immaculate Conception, and the Stations of the Cross. Established the Way of the Cross in over 500 places, including the Colosseum. Patron of parish missions
Sat.Nov 27th St. Fergal. Scottish. Died 721.
May have studied in both Scotland and Ireland. Priest. Travelling bishop in Ireland. Evangelist in Scotland Attended a synod in Rome in 721, which condemned sorcery and irregular marriages. Preached in Scotland. Founded churches dedicated to St Patrick in Scotland. Settled in Glamis in c.710. Attended a synod in Rome in 721, which condemned sorcery and irregular marriages. St Fergal is buried at Glamis, a central location of William Shakespeare's Macbeth and where a cave and well bear his name
