TGIF - KIDS CLUB is back for November.
The Kids Club for all National School going children is back for the four Fridays in November. Starting on Friday 4th November from 7.30pm to 9.00 pm. Admission is just €3.

All services from and including the 10.00 am Mass on Sunday 30th October will be by Winter Time. Please put clocks BACK ONE HOUR by end of Saturday night. The Community Alert Committee encourage you to change the battery in the smoke detector when you change your clocks, because it can be so easy to forget.

SHRULE COMMUNITY CENTRE BOOK SHOP
Shrule Community Centre is opening a bookshop on Friday week 11th November @ 11 am (11.11.11 @ 11 am)There will be tea and coffee available, we are hoping to have the hall open to the community every Friday morning for a few hours so that people will come out and meet up with friends at the centre for some social interaction and activities. We are also looking for books and volunteers to help out. Anyone interested can ' 086 390 75 81.


AL-ANON FAMILY GROUP MEETING will be held in Crann Mor Centre Ballinrobe on Sunday night at 8.30pm.Al-anon is a support group for anybody whose life is affected by anyone else's drinking.

If you could like to include your deceased relatives and friends in the special Nine day Novena of Masses which starts at the All Souls Day please take an envelope with you and return it before the 7pm Mass on Tuesday 1st November.

FEAST DAYS OF THE WEEK – THE LIVES OF THE SAINTS
Mon 31st Oct Bro. Dominic Collins, S.J.
Dominic was born around 1566 in the city of Youghal. In 1598, after a military career, he entered the Society of Jesus as a brother. He returned to Ireland in 1601, but on 16th June 1602, he was captured by the English who tried in vain to make him abjure his faith. Refused to renounce his Catholic faith. Condemned to death, he was hanged in his native city of Youghal on 31st October 1602. Beatified in 1992 by Pope John Paul II.

Tue 1st Nov ALL SAINTS DAY. HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION
The earliest certain observance of a feast in honour of all the saints is an early 4th Cent commemoration of "all the martyrs." In the early 7th Cent, after successive waves of invaders plundered the catacombs, Pope Boniface IV gathered up some 28 wagonloads of bones and re-interred them beneath the Pantheon, a Roman temple dedicated to all the gods. The pope rededicated the shrine as a Christian church. According to Venerable Bede, the pope intended "that the memory of all the saints might in the future be honoured in the place which had formerly been dedicated to the worship not of gods but of demons"

Feast Day in commemoration of the faithful departed in purgatory. The Church has encouraged prayer for the dead from the earliest times as an act of Christian charity. St. Augustine: "If we had no care for the dead, we would not be in the habit of praying for them”

Thu 3rd Nov St. Malachy O’More 1094-1148, Patron of Armagh.
One of Malachy's great claims to popular fame was his gift of prophecy. While in Rome in 1139 he received a vision showing him all the Popes from his day to the end of time. He wrote poetic descriptions of each of the pontiffs, presented the manuscript to Pope Innocent II - and it was forgotten until 1590. It has been in print - and hotly debated, both authenticity and correctness - ever since. According to these prophecies, there is only one Pope remaining after Benedict XVI. Hmm.

Fri 4th Nov St. Charles Borromeo. (Italy) 1538-1602.
Born to a wealthy, noble family. Nephew of Pope Pius IV. A canon lawyer at age 21. Created cardinal at the age of 22. Worked with the sick and helped bury the dead during the plague outbreak in Milan in 1576. Charles spent his life and fortune in the service of the people of his diocese. Patron of stomach diseases & Bishops.

Sat 5th Nov St. Elizabeth. Born 1st Cent BC.
Descendant of the Aaron. Wife of Zachary, temple-priest. Relative of Mary. Mother of St John the Baptist, becoming pregnant very late in life. She was the Elizabeth that Mary visited soon after the Annunciation. Patron of expectant mothers.
