Peanuts, Paramedics, Paralysis, Pardon, and Parish!
Three small boys celebrated Confessions. The first told, "I threw Peanuts in the lake." The second confessed the same crime. When the third came in, the priest said, "I suppose you threw peanuts in the lake too." The boy answered, "No, no, Father, I am Peanuts." The faith of the 4 paramedics in the Gospel overcomes all barriers in bringing their fellow parishioner to healing and a better quality of life. They set the bar of neighbourliness and parish service very high. Jesus doesn’t call on God, but says ‘My son, your sins are forgiven.’ For us a strange way to start healing, but in their culture, the man was ill /disabled because he or his family had sinned. Indeed, the awareness of that sin may have caused the paralysis – the unanswered question of mind over body. Forgiveness must come before the cure. The religious leaders/people go bonkers. This wandering country fellow forgives sin that only God has power to do. Death by stoning is the penalty for blasphemy. Jesus says ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and go home’. The fellow walks, restored to his family and parish. The Scribes get the message, if He can make paralysed legs walk, He can forgive sins. Jesus gave this gift to His Church. There we reconcile ourselves with God. We meet the same Jesus as the paralytic met. We know we must face our sins before we can put them behind us. Lent is an ideal time to avail of this gift. We encourage everyone to take advantage of the Sacrament. Let all be parish paramedics, bringing and enjoying peace of heart and mind, love in relationships, happiness in homes, and trustful harmony in parish communities. And if all you did was throw Peanuts in the river you have nothing to worry about!

The Novena of Hope at the Graan this year is from Sunday 4th to Monday 12th March. Sunday services are 9am, 10.30am, 12noon and 4.00pm. Weekdays 12.30pm and 8pm, except Wednesday which is at 11am and 8.00pm. Saturday 10th Mass at 11am and 6.30pm. Billy will lead Praying Scripture (Lectio Divina) Divine Reading. It has been called The Eucharist of the Intelligence by analogy - a Holy Communion with Christ, as real as our Communion in the sacred mysteries of his Body and Blood. Saint Jerome: “I say the Word of Scripture is truly the Body of Christ and His Blood; it is divine doctrine. If we approach the Sacrament, and a tiny crumb should fall, we are appalled. God has given us His Word, yet we may not make an effort to listen, or be easily distracted. Are we not responsible for our failing? (Jerome).
