The Pope who wouldn’t let people kiss his ring!’Read about it in today's First Reading, ‘As Peter reached the house, Cornelius went out to meet him, knelt at his feet, and prostrated himself. But Peter helped him up. 'Stand up,' he said 'I am only a man after all!' The first Pope, untouched by Roman power knew he was servant of the people. His was the power of service. The Second Vatican Council stressed the equality of the People of God in a document called The Constitution on the Church. Peter seems to have known this from the start that God doesn’t have favourites, as he says, 'The truth I have now come to realise is that God does not have favourites, but that anybody of any nationality who fears God and does what is right is acceptable to him.' One wonders when this truth was lost. The Holy Spirit didn’t need permission to come into people's lives once they desired that gift. ‘While Peter was still speaking the Holy Spirit came down on all the listeners. The Holy Spirit is a free agent, and as the wind blows where God wills, so with the Holy Spirit. The religious people of the time were surprised, ‘Jewish believers who had accompanied Peter were all astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit should be poured out on the pagans too, since they could hear them speaking strange languages and proclaiming the greatness of God. It seems they would have controlled the Spirit, or made the gift conditional. Peter then calls for a celebration 'Could anyone refuse the water of baptism to these people, now they have received the Holy Spirit just as much as we have?’ They officially and publically celebrated that the Spirit was among them. 'Peter then gave orders for them to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterwards they begged him to stay on for some days. The people realised baptised life had only started, and they would need guidance and support. And that is why we have the Church, and our parishes.

Rosary at Our Lady's Shrine, Kednaminsha: Sunday, 20th May at 7pm. Join your Parish Community to pray the Rosary in preparation for the Eucharistic Congress in June. As this is First Communion Day in the Parish, we invite especially all the children who have made their First Communion with their families and also the children that made their Confirmation recently.

Our Parish Annual Golf Classic – Friday 8th June 2012: Thanks to the untiring work of the organizing committee and the exceptional Sponsorship of Matthews Coaches our classic is on 8th June at Mannan Castle Golf Club, Donaghmoyne. We thank all who made last year's classic a brilliant success, especially all Sponsors. Acknowledging present financial constraints and constant demands on monies, we humbly request your generous support again this year. A Four Ball Team entry fee is €180, including food. Teebox or Green sponsorship is €50. We would appreciate deeply if you request your golf friends to consider entering a team. Perhaps individually or as a group others could manage sponsorship. All proceeds are for Parish maintenance and renovations.

Carrickmacross Eucharistic, Procession Sunday May 20th at 3.00pm. We are contacting clubs, schools and organizations in the hope that they will encourage their members to join in the Eucharist Procession under a banner or flag as it is a Family, Community and Parish occasion. The Patrick Kavanagh Centre: Our next Workshop: Creative Writing for Beginners on 28th and 29th July. Directed by well known author and poet, Gabriel Fitzmaurice. Call for Information: The Patrick Kavanagh Centre has secured LEADER funding to undertake a study of Patrick Kavanagh Country. Sheridan Woods Architects and Urban Planners have been appointed to identify local sites related to Kavanagh's life and work, record how they would have appeared at the time of Kavanagh's writing and identify how they might be preserved and enhanced as heritage and tourism assets. In order to develop a record of how sites looked during Kavanagh's time the Patrick Kavanagh Centre is preparing a photographic archive of Inniskeen. If you have old photographs of the village or sites relating to Patrick Kavanagh and his work we are interested in hearing from you. .Inniskeen Camogie were among forty eight Camogie clubs who took part in Caman to Croker event on last Saturday May 5th.This was an incredible experience for the girls to play in Croke Park, an iconic venue for all Gaelic games supporters and players. The Red and Green of Inniskeen served up some great Camogie on the day and this will serve well for the future of Camogie in the parish. 3 games were played and the girls won 2, They played against Drumgoon of Cavan, Crandoagh of Donegal and Western Gaels of Sligo. A special word of thanks to Maria Gartlan-Ward, Pauline Jones, Michelle and Kathy Deery who travelled with team on Saturday. Team: Olivia Boyle, Aoibheann Crawley, Sarah Deery, Claire Deery, Jodie Duffy, Sinead Gartlan, Amy Hughes, Niamh Jones, Lucy Kindlon, Sarah Leddy, Aoibheann Monahan, Amy Needham, Abbie Sheridan, Claire Ward and Karen Kindlon. Underage Camogie Training resumes every Wednesday. Louth Blitzs for U8, U10 and U12 are commencing soon. Parents will be notified by text. Senior Team Senior Registration Fees are now due. The Senior Team played their first game in the Louth League on Wednesday last against Collon and emerged worthy winners in a very fine performance that seen some great scoring . They now play St Kevin's in their second game May 9th. Please check Teamer for details.

50th International Eucharistic Congress (10th - 17th June): “Communion with Christ and with one another“. Advanced Notice regarding 4th National Collection. This weekend, we are giving parishioners and people advance notice that our diocese will hold the 4th National Collection on the weekend of 12th and 13th May. The Eucharistic Congress is an international gathering of people which aims to promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church, to help improve our understanding and celebrate the liturgy and to draw attention to the social dimension of the Eucharist. We want to ensure that the whole Church, both here in Ireland and further afield will see the Congress as an opportunity to deepen our faith in the Eucharist. You are invited to support the 4th National Collection on the 12th and 13th May. Your support, especially in these difficulty economic times is very much appreciated.

Tidy Towns meeting Wed night at 8pm in portocabin everyone welcome. Lots of work going on over the next 3 weeks. Planting, painting and sweeping etc. we are usually judged the 1st week of June so we need to be ready.

Jive Classes starting in the Community centre Thur 17th May for 4weeks 8.30 - 10pm. €12 per night or €40 for 4 weeks. Everyone welcome.
