April 27 is the National collection day for Special Olympics Ireland, there will be a collection point in Dromore West this year for the first time.
Special Olympics Ireland is a sports organization for people with an intellectual disability, but it provides athletes with far more than the physical benefits of sport. Special Olympics changes lives. through sport, athletes develop both physically and emotionally, and make new friends, realise their dreams, and know they can fit in. Special Olympics Ireland enables our athletes to achieve and win not only in sport but in life too. Support the sporting heroes by volunteering to shake a bucket on Friday, April 27, the biggest annual fundraising event. As many volunteers as possible are required to help us with the collection in Dromore West. Your support will make a huge difference. Residents in Counties Sligo and Mayo are invited to attend a Community Information Day on Thursday April 26 to find out what services are available in their community. The information day organised by the West Sligo Family Recourse Centre will bring together approximately 35 service providers at the Ocean Sands Hotel from 11am -3pm.Specialists in health, education, enterprise and innovation, community interaction and much more will be in attendance including the Marie Keating Foundation, MABS, Sligo VEC, Sligo LEADER, HSE, Garda Siochana, Carers Foundation, Mens Sheds programme, CLASP, Samaritans, LGBT, CURA and Foroige. St Farnan's GAA Club are celebrating 50 years as a club in 2014 and we are currently setting up a committee to look into organizing different events to commemorate and celebrate the clubs 50th birthday, if anyone would like to get involved in the committee there will be a meeting in Templeboy Parish Hall on Thursday April 26 at 8.30 pm or contact Ollie Golden on 083 – 3399383.

A Bric a Brac shop is opened in Easkey opposite the Village Store on Wednesdays , Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30 to 12.30 and on Sunday after 11.30 am Mass. Easkey Community Council are currently selling Raffle tickets for the development of a caravan park in Easkey Village. Draw will take place on July 21 in Easkey. Tickets are €10 each and are available from all directors and Easkey House 09649020. All support appreciated .

Easkey GAA are running a new lotto Syndicate draw, with the chance of bigger, and even more cash prizes, every 3 months - contact Shane Feeney or any club officer for more details of this great syndicate. Winners from the last draw were €500 Daphne Higgins, €300 Edward Clarke, €200 Billy and Una Brennan with twenty one other winners of €100 each. Members are currently undertaking research towards a history of Easkey GAA Club, which will be an invaluable asset. The Connacht finals of the Community games were held at various venues in Mayo recently. Teams from West Sligo were again this year among the medal winners. Gold medals were won by the Dromore West/ Templeboy area in U12 Mixed Draughts and U14 Mixed Draughts, and also won silver in U10 Mixed Draughts. Skreen/ Dromard also won silver in U15 Badminton.

There was no jackpot winner in the Easkey Community Council lotto draw on Friday night last. Numbers draw were11 17 25 32. Bonus number 14. Winners of €25 were Claire Reilly, Collette &Padraig, Kathleen Cowley, Jeanette Scott, Gerry Danagher .Promoters Prize Tony Jones. The next jackpot will be €5,200 and the draw will be held at the bingo session in the Community Centre on Friday night at 8.30.

The Easkey/ St. Farnans underage hurling club are having a sponsored walk on Monday May 7, from Easkey to Dromore West. All are welcome to join in this walk, go at their own pace, and stop or start wherever they wish. Further details nearer to date.

An Easkey farm belonging to the late Tommy Kivelehan was sold for a total of half a million euro last week . The principal portion of the farm 28 acres is attached to Roslea House a derelict two storey period farmhouse which is a listed building and is in four large fields of good quality land There were four bidders at the auction held in the Ocean Sands with a local farmer eventually buying it. A second parcel of land consisting of 13 acres was sold to a separate bidder.

The annual pilgrimage to Medjugorje will take place on July11 -18 from Knock. Seven nights half board will cost €599 including tax, insurance and full religious programme.
