Lord Mayor Opens BishopstownToastmasters

Lord Mayor of Cork, Brian Bermingham, formally opened Bishopstown Toastmasters on the 23rd of May 2009 when the club charter was presented.

In his address Lord Mayor Bermingham acknowledged the contribution Toastmasters makes to the 2,500 members in the 98 clubs throughout Ireland. The Lord Mayor went on to affirm the value of Toastmasters training and the contribution the members make in their communities.

After the formal opening, Jim Hegarty, regional PRO for Toastmasters International in Ireland and the UK presented member certificates to the new members in Bishopstown Toastmasters. In his address Jim drew on the lessons learnt in his own career in Toastmasters and the many benefits he has gained through membership.

Caroline O’Connor, the regional organiser for Cork and Kerry also addressed meeting and wished the members of Bishopstown Toastmasters every success in their speaking careers.

The final address was given by Eileen Twomey, assistant area organiser for Cork South. Eileen mentioned the other Toastmaster clubs in her area and advocated that all clubs help each other to support their members.

The event was chaired by the club President John Keating.
