Helps to living life more reflectively: The Six Ss
Silence: ‘come apart and rest a while’(Mark 6:31): Each day set aside 10 minutes where you have nothing to ‘do’ but simply to ‘be’. In our noisy world, our souls crave silence.
Sacred Space: Find and create your own sacred space: a corner of your room, a bench in a park, Blessed Sacrament chapel etc., where you can be alone and uninterrupted, and where you can soak yourself in silence.
Slowing down: We live in a world which glorifies speed, with all its’ tragic consequences. We need to slow down and allow some open spaces in our day to sense God’s Holy Spirit.
Seeing: To change the way we see is to change the way we are. When we slow down and become more reflective we see the people and events in our lives in a new way. We see the person that each one is in God’s eyes, despite their faults and failings.
Sensing: Praying with our senses is away of getting out of our heads and being more fully present to the moment. When you take a walk, come alive to everything around you; the sights, the smells, the sounds, the colours, your body, the air around you, your breathing etc.
Savouring: At the end of the day, look back over your day and simply ask yourself: Where did I see God today? Where did I feel God’s love? Where did I turn away from God’s grace? What am I most grateful for today?
