SENIOR LEAGUE
The seniors of Garrymore moved into second place in the Welcome Inn League Division 1B table after coming through a grilling test against Breaffy in the latest round of matches played on Sunday week last.
Garrymore won by three points on a final scoreline of 0 12 to 1 6. The home side lead 0 9 to 1 4 at half time with Enda Varley, Brian Lynskey, Trevor Nally and Jimmy Killeen all hitting the target. Four points were equally shared in the opening seven minutes of the second half with Shane Nally and Enda Varley on target. Breaffy were dealt a huge blow when nine minutes into the second half their influential corner forward Alan Durkan suffered serious knee injury after landing awkwardly and was subsequently taking to hospital by ambulance to be replaced by Conor O’Shea. The game was held up for almost ten minutes as a result. The game never retuned to the free flowing football after this and both sides battled bravely for possession throughout but the biggest cheer of the day came when Martin Jordan kicked a superb point from play six minutes into injury time that proved to be the insurance score and moved Garrymore into second place in the league table for the moment. John Nally’s side had now won four of the six league games to date but stiffer tests lay ahead with Belmullet, Kiltane, Davitts and Castlebar Mitchels still having to be met in the remaining rounds.
The next full round of league matches are fixed for the weekend of August 21st/22nd when Garrymore will be at home to Belmullet.

CARRAS U 14 EXIT CHAMPIONSHIP
An impressive performance by Mayo Gaels saw them defeat Carras comfortably in this south Mayo U 16 B championship semi final played in Hollymount on Wednesday evening last. The game was over as a contest early in the second half as Mayo Gaels completely dominated from start to finish and they will go into the final quietly confident of causing an upset. It was left for Darragh Doherty to do all the scoring for Carras on the evening as he registered all of his sides
2 2 but Mayo Gaels had scoring forwards all over the field and finished with a final tally of 3 18, running out nineteen point winners at the end. The half time score was 0 8 to 1 2 in favour of Mayo Gaels and briefly Carras did get back into the contest with Doherty’s second goal but a serious challenge never materialized. Best on the evening for Carras were Sean Fahy in goal, Alan Cummins in defence while Darragh Doherty was his sides best attacker on the evening. Credit must be given to the Carras management team of Martin Lynskey, Jimmy Heffernan, Tom Doherty and Ger Doherty who had worked hard with this team all year but it just didn’t go their way for them on this particular evening.
CARRAS: Sean Fahy; Alan Cummins, Darragh Shaughnessy; MJ McTigue, Brendan Kelly, Micheal Murphy; Gary Golden, David Varley; Ronan Quinn, Patrick Murphy, Michael Connolly; Colm O’Neill, Darragh Doherty (2 2).
Subs: Dale McCarthy for M Murphy; Brendan Sheridan for R Quinn; Micheal Murphy for B Kelly; Niall Heneghan for D Shaughnessy (inj).
