www.mylocalnews.ie - Media info

The BIG Picture; www.mylocalnews.ie is established to help you to better ’Connect’  with your local town. People want to know what is happening in their area and they are simply too busy to search for this information through a myriad of websites, newspapers and related media outlets.

This service is directed at persons living across the island of Ireland. It will also prove of real benefit to those who have left home and who want to retain contact with their home town. Both constitute an attractive target market for advertisers today. This service brings together the principle strands that comprise a modern vibrant community today, all under the one roof. Visitors can therefore access the most up to date information on their local sports club, school, community notes, public representative, church, entertainment, Jobs, Property, Local Services, Deaths, etc.

How it works; www.mylocalnews.ie will allow the “Key Contacts” in the community to access the website and provide updates on their given field. Secretaries of sports clubs, principles of local schools, recognised local community activists, church leaders, political representatives, etc will regularly update their section. In all cases, members of the public will be actively invited to submit information for publication to their field of interest.

Opportunity for advertisers; For the first time ever, advertisers can now target their advertisements to a specific geographic region (by town and county) and by sector, ie, Sport, Education, Entertainment, etc. In some instance, eg Sport, advertisers can also specifically target a male or female audience. Competitive advertising rates ensure that all budgets are catered for with the utmost flexibility in terms of duration and positioning. Banner advertisements costs start from as little as €1per week.

You can successfully hit your target audience by booking your campaign directly online. It is an easy step by step approach.      Here you can create your account, allowing you access to amend your banner adv at will. What do I need to know about Ad Deadlines?

The beauty of the internet is that there are really no deadlines!.  Once you make your booking, it goes live on the site. The earlier you make your booking however, the better chance of securing your preferred position and dates.

    What is “My Account” facility?

The “My Account” facility allows you to review you ad campaign on the site. It shows you all the features of your campaign

How to get the best results from your banner and classified ads.

    1. Keep your message short and simple. You only have a few seconds to capture the attention of the viewer. Hence, you must be able to get your point across in a few words, as a wordy ad won't get read. Find the right words and images - including animated GIFs that allow short messages to rotate - to trigger action. Too much clutter adversely affects the performance of an ad and negatively impacts on the ad’s ability to brand. Less is more!.

    2. Provide something interesting to viewers. It is not necessarily true that people do not read ads. People only read what is interesting to them - and sometimes, it can be an ad. Making the case for targeted placements, your ads will only be successful if you seek out people receptive to your message. You ads will simply be part of the clutter to be ignored if you serve up your ads to viewers who considers your message irrelevant to them.

    3. Give people a reason to click. Viewers will only respond to a compelling proposition. Your ads must be attractive or interesting enough to be successful in generating even the slightest flicker of response. People react favourably to ads that provide them a chance to win something. An ad where they can get something for free or a special discount also gets high click rates. Develop your ad’s  message around the most persuasive reason why people would want to go to your site, be it your service, special offers, promotions or products that make their life much better.

    4. Develop follow-through mechanisms. Leading users who clicked on your ad to your home page is acceptable if your advertising goal is to develop branding for your site. If however you are running a competition on the site and wish to solicit a specific action from the user, you must create follow-through mechanisms for these users. A special page explaining the promotion in detail,  provides visual or messaging clues about what to do next. In addition, having a special page for each of your ads can help you determine which creative is more effective in bringing in traffic or sales.

    5. Target your ads. Click-throughs alone are a poor indicator of the effectiveness of a campaign. The important metric is the number of qualified prospects that the ad solicits.  If you are looking for audience for a site catering to baby boomers, a 15-year old who clicks on your banner is less relevant to you. A campaign targeted to a specific audience is likely to yield better results. A targeted campaign is geared to a specific audience, be it a certain demographic group or people working in a specific industry. You need to be more selective about where you buy ad space, preferably on those pages whose content dovetails with your specific marketing message.

    6. Always test your ads. Before going full-blast in your campaign, you need to test your ads with a subset of your target audience. Experiment with various ad designs to gauge the appeal of your promotional offers and the type of message that brings a high-interest customer.

    7. Online ads must be part of your overall advertising strategy. Your marketing campaign will be effective if all its elements are sewn tightly together. It must support your direct mail campaigns, and dovetail your press, radio or email marketing. Test your campaigns and judge it in terms of lead quality rather than quantity. Is your ad bringing you more sales than your email newsletter sponsorship campaign? If so, you must weigh the pros and cons of continuing each campaign, including the costs and response generated from each medium. Understand, however, that there can sometimes be a lag time between seeing the ad and actually responding to it.

    8. Make sure to update your ad. The success of your ad campaign depends on whether it drives users to action. Develop your ads with your users' needs in mind, constantly monitor its performance and revise it to improve your conversion rate. Online advertising is only one of the many ways to reach your audience but they can still be a very powerful tool if used properly.

    Good luck!
